Artist’s Statement
I take pleasure in creating drawings as well as other graphic designs. I also have explored some in both 3D and 2D animation, but I intend to delve into that field more and broaden my horizons. I find some of the modern uses of animation fascinating. Through the medium of animation, characters whose actors are deceased or have aged noticeably can be still be included in movies and other works. Also, through the combination of animation and real-world objects, people can experience adventures that they could never otherwise encounter without the computer-generated world. When designing and creating new pieces, I often enjoy crafting items that live in the realm of Fantasy, Science Fiction and or comedic relief.
Most of my work is influenced by movies, TV, and other entertainment especially around the 80s. A few examples of entertainment that has guided my interest are the 6 Star Wars films, Terminator 2, campy B movies, and the format of VHS with it's static, almost gritty feeling. I enjoy having objects I make connected or sharing similarities. For example, I like to have a single character that appears in multiple pieces of art, creating a subtle link between the various works. I believe this adds depth to both the art and the character itself making them both more complex and interesting. When contemplating what I want to design, I often imagine what I would want as a consumer.
Anything I make on my own time is solely for the purpose of entertainment, no hidden messages, or agendas, only amusement and or escapism. I feel it is important for people to be given different types of entertainment that allows them to get away from their day-to-day monotonies and or struggles. Science Fiction and Fantasy are much less interesting, in my opinion, when ideologies are injected needlessly. I will consider myself successful, when my artwork allows individuals to escape and forget their real life hardships.
